About iKalva
Accurate, transparent and accessible nutrition calculators for everyone.
Our story
iKalva was founded in 2024 by Lluis Enric Mayans, a software developer born and raised in Ibiza (Balearic Islands). For years, Lluis combined his career in programming with a deep personal interest in sports nutrition and strength training. When he started diving seriously into calorie and macronutrient calculations, he encountered a problem that many Spanish-speaking users share: the tools available in Spanish were either inaccurate — using outdated formulas without citing sources — or so cluttered with advertising that they were practically unusable.
Frustrated by this situation, he decided to build his own solution. The premise was straightforward: rigorous calculators, grounded in peer-reviewed scientific literature, free from advertising clutter and available in the major European languages. The result is iKalva, an independent project that today provides tools to calculate basal metabolic rate, total daily energy expenditure, body mass index, macronutrient distribution, caloric deficit, and more.
Our principles
Scientific evidence
Every formula implemented in iKalva is backed by studies published in reputable scientific journals. We never assume data; we cite it.
Transparency
We publish the sources and methodology behind every calculator. Users can always see where the numbers come from.
Accessibility
Access to nutritional knowledge should not depend on language, or require sign-ups or subscriptions. iKalva is free and available in 6 languages.
